Jacqueline Esquival, Early Learning Specialist: So growing up, I did not like math. I just didn’t feel comfortable with it, I was scared of it. But as I take these trainings more and more, I can see that math is everywhere and I’m a little more comfortable with it.

Cecelia Zweigle, Early Learning Coach: In my early math memories, I actually loved math. I loved counting and sorting. I loved playing with numbers. I loved learning number facts. Three plus five is the same as five plus three. And to make eight you can do two and six, or you could do one and seven, or you could do seven and one. To me, it was exciting and fascinating that no matter how you put it, it’s the same.

Jacqueline: Just knowing that it doesn’t have to just be addition or subtraction. It could be patterns, colors, letters.

Cecelia: I was always fascinated with numbers. I love math. I’m not good at math, but I love math.

Text on screen: A special thanks to Cecelia Zweigle and Jacqueline Esquivel from the Merced County Office of Education, without whose help these videos would not have been possible.
