On screen: In a montage of images, an educator and two children stand in an outdoor play area. In front of them, a pocket chart hangs from a beam and contains cards demonstrating different movements with a stick figure and descriptions. The descriptions are written in English and Spanish and include “walk on tip toes” and “jumping jacks.”
Educator: Which one do you want to make?
On screen: The educator kneels in front of the pocket chart. One child—Ezra—approaches the pocket chart and looks at the cards. The other child—Sol—plays with a toy nearby and calls out to get the educator’s attention.
Sol: Hey, lookit.
Educator: Which one? She’s thinking.
On screen: Ezra points to one of the cards in the pocket chart.
Educator: “Walk on your heels.” Okay, your turn.
Image on screen: A card in the pocket chart with a stick figure walking with their heels down and toes up. Small red arrows point down toward the heel and up from the toes. The text on the card says, “walk on your heels” in English and Spanish.
On screen: The educator hands a red foam die to Ezra. Ezra throws the die, and both children run toward it.
Educator: Run, see. What number is it, Ezra?
On screen: Ezra picks up the die, and the two children run back to the educator.
Ezra: Five points.
Educator: Five? Your friend wants to count. Can you count?
On screen: The educator holds the die in front of Sol, who points to each dot on the die while counting.
Sol: One, two, three, four, five.
Educator: Five.
On screen: The educator stands up and points to their feet. They are standing on their heels with their toes up. The educator takes five steps on their heels.
Educator: Okay. Let’s do it. Heels, and let’s do five. One, two, three, four, five. Don’t lose your balance.
On screen: Ezra and Sol stand on their heels and walk with the educator. A third child joins the group.
Educator: He’s going to play with us.
On screen: The third child takes the foam die from the educator and throws it. The educator kneels beside the third child while Ezra and Sol run after the foam die.
Educator: What number is it?
On screen: The third child holds up five fingers in front of the educator’s face.
Child 3: Five!
On screen: Ezra and Sol run back, holding it out to the educator who takes it.
Educator: Five! Can you choose one? You throw it, can you choose one [card]?
On screen: The third child walks up to the pocket chart and points to a card.
Image on screen: A card with a stick figure. The stick figure’s arms are outstretched. One leg is reaching down and the other is bent at the knee, reaching behind the figure. The text on the card says “skip” in Spanish and English.
Educator: Skip. Five. Okay, let’s do it. One, two, three, four five.
On screen: The educator skips and the three children skip behind.
