Educator (in Spanish): Let’s see How many vehicles do you think are in each dish? Think. What number do you think? How many are in each dish?

On screen: The educator taps their temple to represent “thinking” and then points toward the yellow plate on the table in front of them.

Child 1: One.

On screen: One of the children to the left of the educator points to the blue plate on the table in front of them.

Educator: Or without counting them. Just guess. How many do you think?

Child 1 (in English): Eleven?

On screen: The educator points toward a child sitting to the right of the educator.

Educator: Eleven? Okay.

On screen: The educator points toward a child on the left.

Children: Twelve.

Educator: Twelve.

Child 2: Thirteen?

Educator: Thirteen, fourteen?

Child 3: Fifteen?

Educator: Fifteen? Okay, we’re going to see how many are in each dish.

On screen: In the next scene, each child has a colored plate with vehicles directly in front of them. The children are lining up the plastic vehicles on the table next to each plate. The educator moves the orange plate from directly in front of the child sitting to the left of the educator and points toward the row of cars. The child points to each orange car in their row.

Educator: Put them together here. Put them together in a line. Let’s see.

Child 4: Seven.

Educator: Let’s see. One, two, three—count with me—four, five.

On screen: The educator points to each of the orange cars in the row.

Child 4: Six.

On screen: The educator points to the first orange car in a row in front of the child sitting to the left of the first child. The child has split up the orange vehicles and is putting each of them in a row. The educator counts them as one set.

Educator: Six. And then? Seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. Okay they have twelve. How many are there?

On screen: The educator points to the group with the orange cars before holding their hands out to either side of them, palms face up.

Child 5: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

Educator: Aha. Eight. Ten. Eleven…

Child 5: Twelve.

Educator: Very good, twelve. Do you also have twelve? They also have twelve. How many do you have?

On screen: The educator points to a child sitting across the table from them.

Child 6: Ten!

Educator: Are you sure? Let’s see, let’s count them. Hold on. Let’s see.

Child 6: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven.

On screen: The child holds up a finger for each car counted.

Educator: And one more? Eleven, what comes after eleven?

On screen: The educator points toward the last car in the row.

Child 6: Um…

Educator: Who can help?

Child 7: Twelve.

Educator: Twelve.

On screen: The educator points to the blue cars in front of a child on the right.

Educator: And you? How many did you have?

Child 2: Twelve.

Educator: Twelve, too? And you too?

On screen: The educator points toward the child sitting directly to the right with yellow vehicles. The child points to each vehicle in the row in front of them.

Child 3: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve.

Educator: Twelve, too.
