What Is Coaching?

"A good coach can change the game. A great coach can change a life." -John Wooden

Think about a time when someone helped you learn a new skill. This person may have been a coach, mentor, teacher, or family member. Take a moment to reflect on your relationship with this person.

  • What feelings and thoughts come to mind?
  • What worked well in your relationship?
  • How do you wish the relationship might have been different? Why?

Coaching is a relationship-based process that supports educators’ professional learning and growth. It is grounded in a collaborative learning relationship between a coach and coachee.

  • Coach: An individual who provides support and feedback to enhance someone else’s knowledge, skills, and mindsets.
  • Coachee: An individual who receives support and feedback from a coach.
